Queen Medb's Magic-Boar Chase
In Queen Medb's mythological wild-boar chase around the plain of Magh Muc Dhruim (Athenry) the magic boar was transmogrified (foreground - inset frontal view of stone pig) when speared above the Dur River (Dughiortach) near Esker. The Rot na Ri royal road ran atop the esker ridge passing in front of Ratgorgin Castle beside Ailech Gorgin fort whence Corc (Gorgin) led the Deisi tribes to establish Cashel of Munster.
